In everyday language, the phrase “ego size” almost always appears at the moment of collision, when one person looks at another with genuine surprise: an adult, intelligent, capable of earning money, negotiating, organizing complex things, yet when the conversation turns to relationships, behaving as if the very idea of caring about the quality of connection were invented by bored people for entertainment. In scenes like this, it becomes obvious very quickly that for some, an interest in harmony switches on as a natural need, almost like hygiene, while for others that same need looks like an odd luxury that feels like a waste of time, because “everything is already clear,” “people are all the same,” and “the only thing that matters is that it works.”
